Texas Pecan Apple Crisp :
A Taste of Home This Fall

There’s something about fall that makes home feel a little more special.
The kitchen smells warmer, evenings feel a little cozier, and suddenly a simple dessert can turn an ordinary night into something worth gathering around.
This Texas Pecan Apple Crisp brings together some of my favorite flavors of the season: tender apples, warm cinnamon, and toasted Texas pecans beneath a buttery, golden topping. It’s simple enough for a quiet evening at home but special enough to serve when friends and family come through the door.
And, of course, nothing says fall in Texas quite like adding a little Texas pecan to the table.
The Ingredients
Apple Filling
-
6 medium apples, peeled and thinly sliced
-
2 tablespoons lemon juice
-
1/3 cup light brown sugar
-
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
Pecan Topping
-
3/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
-
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
-
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
-
3/4 cup chopped Texas pecans
-
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-
1/4 teaspoon salt
-
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
How to Prepare It
1. Prepare the Apples
Preheat your oven to 375°F.
Place the sliced apples in a large bowl and toss them with lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and flour. Mix until the apples are evenly coated.
Transfer the mixture to a lightly greased baking dish and spread it into an even layer.
2. Make the Pecan Topping
In another bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, chopped Texas pecans, cinnamon, and salt.
Add the cold butter cubes and work them into the mixture with your fingers or a pastry cutter until the topping becomes crumbly.
The goal is a mixture with small pieces of butter throughout—those are what help create that golden, buttery crisp topping.
3. Bake
Sprinkle the pecan topping evenly over the apples.
Bake for approximately 35–45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown and crisp.
Let it cool slightly before serving.
For an extra cozy finish, serve it warm with vanilla ice cream or a spoonful of whipped cream.
Make It Your Own
One of the best things about a crisp is how easy it is to personalize.
For a little extra Texas character, try adding a pinch of chopped pecans to the apple filling as well as the topping. You could also add a drizzle of local Texas honey before serving for an extra touch of sweetness.
Hosting a fall gathering? Prepare the crisp ahead of time and warm it just before serving. It makes an easy dessert for a casual dinner, a weekend gathering, or an evening spent around the kitchen table with family and friends.
More Than a Recipe—It's About Home
For me, recipes like this are a reminder that some of the best parts of a home aren't always the things you notice in a listing.
It's the kitchen where everyone gathers while dinner is being prepared.
It's the dining table where conversations continue long after the meal is finished.
It's the backyard where friends linger on a cool fall evening.
It's the extra room where family can stay for the weekend.
A home becomes special because of the life that happens inside it.
That's one of the things I love about helping people find homes across North and East Texas. Everyone has a different idea of what makes a home feel like home. For some, it's a beautiful kitchen made for entertaining. For others, it's a quiet neighborhood, a spacious backyard, room for growing families, or simply a place where everyone has room to gather.
The right home should fit the way you live—not just today, but the memories you're hoping to make there.
A Little Taste of Texas
So this October, grab some apples, pick up a bag of Texas pecans, and make something warm for the people you love.
Because sometimes, the recipe isn't really about the dessert.
It's about gathering around the table, slowing down for a little while, and enjoying the feeling of being home.
